I am excited to introduce you to a project we would like to launch in the Owensboro area. With the economy as it is, The homeless and low income single parent families of our area are being left without options and food.

We have enclosed a business plan outlining the plans of helping in both these areas, of these people. Thru serving meals in a dignified and respectful way to the people in need. As well as giving free training to allow them better prospects of being hired in a service industry in our area. And helping to place them with the employers of the service industries,

By doing this in a respectful atmosphere we then in turn could allow professionals from other areas of business to give seminars that would help in raising self worth, add better life skills, Financial responsibility skills, As well as providing a start for a better future for those in need.

Our plan is molded after a very successful plan that was implemented in Chicago in 1989 and has expanded and grew to include other areas of helping , That has created a lower unemployment rate as well as lowering the hunger problem of their area.

The plan is simple give a man a fish he eats for one day , Teach a man to fish he eats for life, We want to do both and we feel our plan is a model for just that.

Introduction

Unity cafe will be ran as a 501 non profit organization Serving free meals in a restaurant setting to low income single parent families and the homeless of the Owensboro area.

To help insure dignity as well as nutrition to families and individuals in need. While serving the area with a full no cost work force training to individuals in need , in all aspects of the restaurant business and follow up with help in placing the individuals after training in jobs with restaurants and service oriented business in the area.

Unity Cafe is planned similar to the very successful Inspiration Cafe in Chicago that was created in 1989. That has grown to include not only employment services but also housing services and placement, and other support services .

The organization

Unity Cafe will be founded in Owensboro after approval of incorporation and 501 tax exempt status is granted.

Services

Unity cafe will serve free meals to the low income single parent families and homeless of the area in a restaurant style setting , which allows them dignity in selecting their meal from a menu.

While training selected low income and unemployed individuals

for the job training services. The people involved in the job training will be under supervision serving and preparing the foods as well as learning all aspects of customer service, professionalism in the work place, and computer skills to help insure job placement after their training.

Unity cafe will then in turn work with other service oriented companies and restaurants in job placement for the trained individuals.

Also giving presentations from other business as well as financial planning training thru special presentation from professionals in their fields , to help assist trainees with money management, personal finances,increase self sufficiency, career services, and retention support.

Objective

Unity Cafes goal is to help men and women overcome the causes of homelessness and find stability by securing income through employment

To assist non employed in gaining employment

To assist in stabilizing the families with full time and part time permanent employment through other service and restaurant companies in the Owensboro area.

To give special seminars from other local professionals with expertise in finance , money management, family security, and life skills to help insure success for the trainees in all areas of life

Mission

Unity cafe's mission is to help feed the needy of the area and give dignity to the needy by giving them the same type treatment we all expect when going to any eating establishment , Served by waitresses , Served with their chose of selections from a menu. As well as food prepared fresh and served on restaurant style plates

. As well as help further their future and self worth by training them for gainful employment and assisting in placement with job openings in the area.

Unity cafes main purpose is to better the life of those we can in the Owensboro area and in turn better the city of Owensboro.

To acquire a separate location to institute a full service restaurant for the public that could be used as a second stage training for individuals that have completed the initial training at unity cafe, That could produce income to assist unity cafe with operating costs. And further the training of the individuals to be specialized in one area of the service industry that will further benefit them in their job placement.
