Founded in 1998 as the town was celebrating its bicentennial year, the Wayne Historical Society serves as the community's primary link with its more than two hundred year old history. It sponsors special programs for public participation, and works in close co operation on historical projects of community interest. A principal activity is continuing research into diverse aspects of town history, sharing the results through special exhibits as well as periodic research papers and full-length books.The Society owns no property, neither buildings nor collections, but maintains an interest in preservation of town historic structures, and is actively engaged in acquiring and preserving documents, photographs, and other items for the town historical collection,Officers include a president, secretary and treasurer.
