Westminster Presbyterian Church

1300 India Hook Road
803-366-3107

Westminster Presbyterian Church held its first Sunday service on July 15, 1974 when 350 people met in the Catawba Academy gymnasium. Dr. Joseph Everett, the first pastor, led the church into the new denomination of the Presbyterian Church in America (founded 1973).

The church met in various facilities and purchased 22 acres of land at the corner of McDow and India Hook. In 1975, they built a large Multi-purpose Building for worship and activities. In 1985, they broke ground for the present 800-seat sanctuary complex. At that same time Westminster called Dr. Shelton Sanford, our current pastor. In 1995, work began on the educational building, Westminster Hall. In each of these buildings we see lives being changed by Christ on a weekly basis.

God is moving in the lives of the people who make up Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Lord is using the congregation, Shelton Sanford, the Staff, Elders and Deacons to reach Rock Hill. One way we have seen this is in the growth of our communicant membership, which currently exceeds 1700 members.

Westminster's philosophy is "we must get smaller to grow bigger" and at any given time there are 300 people meeting in small groups being encouraged and equipped for ministry service and growth in their walk with Christ.

God has been faithful in raising up a diversity of ministries, including Westminster Towers (retirement), Westminster Catawba Christian School, a strong campus ministry at Winthrop University (RUF), and many Mercy Ministries. Among these are the Prison Ministry, medical treatment for those who can not afford health care, feeding the hungry and tutoring less fortunate children.
