About the YMCA of the Greater Houston Area:

For any organization to stand the test of time it must be able to keep up with the world around it. Through all of our 118 year history , the YMCA of the Greater Houston Area has been a place where people can find hope, fellowship and healing. The YMCA has always stayed true to its mission, values and purpose of helping persons grow in spirit, mind and body. With 38 centers and over 300 program locations serving eleven counties, the YMCA of the Greater Houston Area is helping to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

Our Mission:
To put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Our Purpose:
The Association, in harmony with the YMCA national purpose, perceives itself as a Christian fellowship dedicated to improving the quality of life through programs and services which provide opportunities for people to reach their highest potential, develop a positive attitude of self and others, appreciate good health and fitness, acquire a value system and maintain spiritual awareness that manifests itself in our daily lives.

Our Values:
The YMCA is committed to putting Christian principles into practice. YMCA programs, activities and relationships teach and model Judeo-Christian values in order to strengthen kids, families and communities. Caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith are core values evident in all that we do.
We are a private, not-for-profit, membership organization that serves the greater Houston community. We are a United Way agency. We seek to broaden an individual's involvement, first from participant to member and later to volunteer, donor and advocate.
