This video features a tutorial on surface area. Suppose this globe (without the stand) has a diameter of 29 in. What is the surface area? Like all spheres, this globe is symmetrical, where if you were to cut this globe in half, both sides would be of equal size. The formula of the surface area is S=4(pi)r^(2). Pi is always a constant, meaning that you don't have to solve for pi. Pi is 3.14. Also notice that r is also part of the equation. It stands for the radius, which is half of the diameter. So r=.5c. r=(1/2)*29 Therefore r=14.5 in. However, surface area and other mathematical formulas are converted in meters and cm. To convert to cm, know that 2.54in=1cm, 36in=1m and 100cm=1m. Therefore 14.5in*(1m/36in)=0.403m. Solve. Sa=4*pi*r^(2) Sa=4*3.14*(.403m)*(.403m) Sa=2.04m^(2)
