Country music stars ALABAMA had a desire to return to their musical roots in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Here is where they honed and nurtured their talent and impressive three-part harmonies while playing at The Bowery, a local nightclub, for tips. Wanting to bring a unique perspective to the existing entertainment industry currently on the "Grand Strand", The Alabama Theatre was born.

The opening in 1993, of the Alabama Theatre caused Myrtle Beach to be in many of the headlines of major network media including CBS Morning Show, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America, CMT, TNN and countless national and regional publications. Alabama Theatre was even a question on the popular game show Jeopardy. Gaylord Entertainment was brought on board to collaborate in writing, directing and producing a nightly show incorporating all musical types and styles. Gaylord Entertainment, then owner of the Grand Ol' Opry, Opry-land, Opryland Hotels, TNN & CMT, was no stranger to big time show business. Talented people are brought in from Nashville, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles to work with band and performers, teach dancers the new steps, design costumes and stage the show. A lighting director comes in and programs the entire performance. Each song can have over 100 lighting changes.

The Theatre's renowned sound system was designed by Electrotec Productions, Inc. of Los Angeles, which is widely recognized as the innovator in this type of sound system. Electro designs for such stars as ALABAMA, Barbara Streisand, Paul McCartney.
