Born July 17, 1924 in Breckenridge, TX, passed away Wednesday, Oct 12, 2011 from cancer. Ray was active in several community organizations including, but not limited to the Santa Barbara University Club, Phi Kappa Psi , Masonic Order, Quiet Birds, Rancheros Vistadores Los Amigos camp, MOWW, The Navy League and the Orchid Society. As a child, he dreamed of being a pilot. In June 1943, Raymond enlisted in the United States Naval Academy and went on to fly single prop fighter planes in WW II and fighter jets in the Korean conflict. His favorite plane was the Corsair. After leaving active duty, he joined Mark Hurd performing aerial photography of the Santa Barbara locale. Following that he worked over 20 years for Paine, Weber as a stockbroker. This very special man had charm, grace, and humility that few of us can accede to. He served our country well. Ray was a wonderful father, as well as a considerate, charitable, and well-educated man. He was an avid lover of political debate and sharing hard earned advice. He is greatly missed. We will always remember him, cherish our memories, and try to live up to the values in life that he worked so hard to instill in each of us. We are forever grateful to have experienced such a wonderful father and community figure in our lives and always remember his contribution to our nation's safety and preservation of heritage. He recorded one album for Decca Records in 1998.Brooks was born in Breckenridge, Texas. His mother bought him a guitar when he was young, but he never seriously started playing it until she threatened to throw it away He took inspiration from artists such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Roger Miller, and played clubs in his teenage years. After winning a contest sponsored by Future Farmers of America, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee and secured a contract with Decca Records in 1998 Recording as Shane Stockton, he released his debut single "What If I'm Right" that year. The song was also made into a music video which aired on CMT. Because his family did not get the channel, they had to view the video's debut at a Walmart store.In June 1998, Decca released his debut album, Stories I Could Tell. In support of the album, Stockton toured with George Strait. He also sang with Buck Owens in Bakersfield, California, and Owens sent Stockton a two-page letter saying that he enjoyed the album.[1] "What If I'm Right" peaked at number 54 on the country music charts, and the album's only other single, "Gonna Have to Fall", reached number 51.[3] One of Stockton's songs, "My Baby No Está Aquí No More", appeared on Ty England's 1999 album Highways & Dance Halls.[4] Stockton lost his recording ...
