Freedom Church
Mission:
Freedom Church is more than a name or label. It is a ministry. Indeed,we believe that the ministry of Freedom was and is the primary ministry of Jesus Christ. For this reason we believe that our Lord has chosen to name this fellowship of believers Freedom Church.
In the scriptures names represent more than mere labels. They are actually a reflection of the nature and character of that which is named. Many of the places in the Bible were named after an event that occurred there. Many of the names in the Bible reflect the nature of that individual or his ministry. So it is with Freedom Church. The primary ministry of this fellowship of believers is freedom but why freedom?
There are many reasons for this emphasis. First, freedom is a major theme throughout the Bible. In the Old Testament God set his people free from bondage, oppression and slavery in Egypt. The New Testament bears witness of the freedom from sin (and other things) which Jesus brings to all who receive Him as Lord and Savior.
Freedom is the heartbeat of the Gospel. Jesus began His ministry by reading from the words of the Prophet Isaiah,
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted. To preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."
The gospel of Jesus Christ proclaims and accomplishes freedom. It frees us from sin from fear from tradition and rote religion from the law from condemnation and all things that would hinder us in our purpose and calling as believers which is to worship, serve and glorify the name of our Lord.
Our Freedom in Christ is not to be abused or used for selfish reasons. We have been freed from sin to become servants or righteousness . At the same time our freedom in Christ is not be abandoned. The Scriptures teach that it is possible for believers and churches to go back into bondage. Therefore we must protect our freedom. Rules and regulations, do's and don'ts become laws which replace and hinder our personal relationship with Christ Jesus. We are free to hear God, obey God and to fellowship with God. Anything that hinders these things or replaces them constitutes a loss of freedom.
We believe that this freedom in Christ is available to all who call on the name of Jesus. Therefore, it is our ministry to pray for that freedom, to proclaim it, to practice it and to demonstrate it in our families, our church, our community and in every area of our lives.
