Express Childrens Theatre is Houstons oldest and largest performing and arts education organization dedicated specifically to children and families. We are celebrating our 16th Season of creating and presenting professional, culturally diverse performing arts designed to entertain and educate.
Sweet Sixteen, is a mixture of culturally diverse stories that span the globe in location and imagination. From fascinating fairy tales to stories of perseverance and personal triumph, this spectacular season will excite the imagination and raise the spirit. These new works and adaptations of classics are created and performed by Houston's finest theater artists. The season also includes captivating storytelling performances for smaller audiences.
Express Theatre was founded in 1991 with two shows, four actors and a shoestring budget. Since that time, we have been the proud recipients of two Austin Circle of Drama Awards, three B. Iden Payne awards for children’s theatre, a cover story in Stage Directions magazine and we were chosen to participate in a historic exchange program with Beijing Children’s Art Theatre. This season we will present over 300 performances in venues all over Southeast Texas. Express has already touched more than 2 million young lives through our mission of creating and presenting professional, culturally diverse performing arts for children and families.
Express offers weekly performances at it’s 90 seat theatre in Northwest Mall (located between Hempstead Highway and 18th Street, just off 610 Loop in Northwest Houston). Our Touring Series brings the magic and excitement of quality theater directly to children in their schools and communities. We also present performances at Houston Community College’s Heinen Theatre, the Children's Museum of Houston and free performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre, numerous Public Libraries and Community Centers.
