Stage Door Inc. Center for the Performing Arts and Education is please to announce the opening of The Boy’s Next Door, by Tom Griffin, the fourth show of the 2009 “Live, Laugh and Love” Season. Running weekends June 19 thru July 12, 2009.

The story takes place in a communal residence in a New England city, where four mentally handicapped men live under the supervision of an earnest, but increasingly "burned out" social worker named Jackie Palmer (Alane Johnson). Norman Bulansky (Marc Anthony Glover), who works in a doughnut shop and is unable to resist the lure of the sweet pastries, takes great pride in the huge bundle of keys that dangles from his waist; Lucien P. Smith (A.Z. Varela) has the mind of a five-year-old but imagines that he is able to read and comprehend the weighty books he lugs about; Arnold Wiggins (Justin Nicholson), the ringleader of the group, is a hyperactive, compulsive chatterer, who suffers from deep-seated insecurities and a persecution complex; while Barry Klemper (Arturo “Link” Soriano), a brilliant schizophrenic who is devastated by the unfeeling rejection of his brutal father (Jeff Coletta), fantasizes that he is a golf pro.  Other Characters include Shelia (Dani Knight) is Norman’s love interest and she so much wants Norman’s keys which is a constant battle, and finally Clara (Sidney Graham), a new ward of the state and Shelia’s new best friend. The Boy’s Next Door is mingled with scenes from the daily lives of this group, where "little things" sometimes become momentous (and often very funny), are moments of great poignancy when, with touching effectiveness, we are reminded that the handicapped, like the rest of us, want only to love and laugh and find some meaning and purpose in the brief time that they, like their more fortunate brothers, are allotted on this earth. The play, while very funny and very touching is not recommended for children. Due to violence, language and subject matter - children will not be allowed to see the production.

The Boy’s Next Door is directed by Marc Anthony Glover who is assisted by Dario Failla. This show will be live on stage at Stage Door Inc. Pasadena’s newest live theatre, located inside Pasadena Town Square Mall (between macy’s and sears next to the children’s play area). Performances are held on Friday and Saturday Evenings at 8pm and Sunday Matinees at 3pm.
