SCORE® Counselors to America’s Small Business
SCORE is a national organization of volunteer men and women who use their business expertise and experience to serve the needs of small businesses in their community. It is a non-profit organization founded in 1964 and is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). It is America's premier source of free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs. SCORE has 364 chapters throughout the United States and its territories, with 12,400 volunteers nationwide.
In San Antonio, the SCORE chapter’s primary office is located in the SBA office, just south of the junction of 281 and 1604. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors, in over 600 areas of business knowledge. SCORE volunteers also serve on the boards of a number of local community agencies, including the San Antonio Food Bank and the Alamo Area Council on Governments, and work to build relationships with local business leaders to provide economic growth and employment opportunities in the San Antonio and surrounding area.
Among the over 40 volunteer counselors in San Antonio are men and women are individuals who have owned and managed their own businesses, and those who have been involved with some of San Antonio’s and the nation’s largest companies, in the US and abroad, including Frost Bank, Dillard’s, Revlon, IBM, and the IRS. In addition, a number of counselors have university teaching experience in finance, economics, marketing, and business management. The mission of these volunteers is to bring all of their experience and expertise in all of these diverse areas of business to making small business owners in the San Antonio area successful.
Score is always looking for additional business leaders who would like to give back to their community by serving as a SCORE volunteer. As a volunteer, you will be a leader in the effort to provide real-world assistance to small businesses and gain fulfillment by sharing your business experience and expertise with a new generation of entrepreneurs. All new SCORE volunteers participate in an orientation on how to be a business counselor and on SCORE's mission, services and the opportunities for volunteer participation. Interested men and women may contact SCORE for more information about volunteer opportunities by phone or email.
