Accepted Artists for Red River Valley International Juried Art Exhibition

One hundred and five artists from twenty-six states entered work in the Red River Valley Museum’s eighth annual Red River Valley International Art Exhibition and seventy eight artists from twenty states had work accepted. The exhibition will be on display at the Red River Valley Museum, 4600 College Drive, Vernon, Texas beginning May 1st through June 13th.

The opening of the show will be an evening of “Tastes and Tales of the Western Trail”, which includes a festive reception of foods that might be found along the Western Trail. Music by Prairie Moon will provide an authentic atmosphere and John Wayne impersonator, Jack Edmundson will amaze those attending with his impersonations of “The Duke”.
The awards presentations for the art will be made at 7pm. Hollis Howard, Sterling, Oklahoma is the Awards Judge. Mr. Howard holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree and recently retired as art instructor at University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. His work has been accepted in several prominent national juried shows including: The American Watercolor Society Show, New York. Hollis has captured many top prizes in a variety of media and subjects. However, it is his poignant watercolors of animal life, landscapes, and portrait work that have won him the greatest praise. Hollis and his wife Kay travel extensively, thus providing a varied subject matter for his paintings. Mr. Howard conducts numerous workshops.
The Santa Rosa Palomino Club will be honored for their 60th anniversary. The precision riding club has served as the official state ambassadors on horseback for several years and represent the state and their hometown in a grand fashion.
Tickets for the “Tastes & Tales of the Western Trail” evening are $25 and will be available from the Red River Valley Museum. Reservations should be made by April 24, 2009. For further information call the Red River Valley Museum at 553-1848, Tuesday through Friday from 1-5pm.
