On foothills of Sanpitch Mountain range in Sanpete County near Fountain Green, Utah. This is our family campground area and the remains of a pioneer town that was abandoned in the 1930. River of Geese (10000+) Outside Omaha Feb.19 2009running time:02:33 added by:PESNetwork source: YouTubeThis is a video I shot of what appeared like a river of geese flying overhead late in the afternoon south of Omaha, Nebraska at mile marker 80.8 (just south of Mound City, east of Big Lake) on I-29, Feb. 19, 2009. maps.google.com It was V formation after V formation, with many of the V's adjacent to each other, so that on average the "river" was two Vs wide. I would guess that the aerial "river" was about 100-200 feet wide, containing about 50-150 geese in V formation between the outside edges, and it stretched from one horizon to the other. I used to see a lot of geese in Boulder, Colorado where I grew up, but I've never seen or even heard of anything even close to this. But then last night (Feb. 6) on Coast to Coast AM a caller mentioned seeing something that matched this description. (Hour 2, ~17:00 minutes in on the recording.) www.coasttocoastam.com Later in the day after posting this, at an extended family get-together, my niece's boyfriend said he would see this number of geese each year during a two-week migration period down in Delta, Utah. In one part of the video I start filming on one horizon (the East), then follow the "river" across the sky to the West horizon. I wish I had just held the camera still for a minute on one spot in the sky, so you could see them flying through the field of vision.
