History :

Providence City is the second oldest city in Cache County. It had its beginnings in 1859 when a small group settled near a spring rising from the bed of a creek. They called the settlement Spring Creek. In November of 1859, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints visited the settlement. They suggested the name be changed to "Providence" because it was a providential and lovely place.
