About Us:

"One of the best small charities in the Greater Washington region."

"By nurturing the artist, we enrich the community. The Art League develops the artist through education, exhibition, and a stimulating, supportive environment, while sharing the experience of the visual arts with the community."

Founded in 1954, The Art League, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational nonprofit organization. The League is a multifaceted visual arts organization that meets its mission through its gallery, fine art school, art supply store, and arts-outreach programs.

Membership in our gallery is open to all and provides entry to a fellowship of over 1,000 artists with a wide range of exhibition and education opportunities. Member artists participate in monthly, juried exhibits - juried by noted fine art professionals from throughout the Washington area and beyond. Our engaging exhibition schedule makes The Art League Gallery an intriguing art space for gallery visitors in the DC metropolitan area to view original art of all media by talented artists from throughout Washington and the Mid-Atlantic region.

The Art League School is a non-accredited institution, open to all, that provides instruction to nearly 7,000 students annually. Courses are offered quarterly in virtually all of the fine arts, and a wide variety of crafts, with some of the most talented and well known artists and instructors in the country. Whether for the novice or a skilled professional, courses are offered for every skill level to ages five and up.

The Art League Supply Store, staffed by knowledgeable working artists, provides members and students with exceptional quality, low priced art supplies. As a convenience to our students, members, and supporters, supplies and materials requested by Art League instructors are sold here.

SOHO (a Space of Her Own) is an award-winning art mentoring program serving low-income at-risk pre-teen girls in Alexandria. The program was developed in collaboration with The Art League and the Alexandria Court Service Unit. Girls and mentors participate in a 16-week arts and life-skills program, concluding with the redecoration of the girls' bedrooms. By providing stability, a nurturing and creative environment, and by promoting and developing meaningful intergenerational relationships, SOHO has successfully helped improve the lives of dozens of girls in Alexandria to date.
