The Rose Hill Train is truly no more as the song says. Just a few years ago the L&N Railroad petitioned to abandon their trackbed and facilities though western Lee County, Virginia including the small town of Rose Hill. In 1942 such small towns had primitive roads, few telephones, and very little electricity outside the larger towns. In addition to Papa Joe Smiddy and his son Dr. Joseph Smiddy, folks comprising Reedy Creek Band are: Crystal Shipley (fiddle), Sam Mallory (mandolin), and Randy Wise (bass). Other bands appearing are Scott County Boys, ETSU Old Time Pride Band, and ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band.
