Description:
The Dover Art League, Inc., originated in 1973 when a group of artists banded together for mutual support and development. The League incorporated in 1977, then reorganized in 1989 and, among other things, opened membership to non-artists.

By 1993, DAL’s growth enabled it to rent space at 102 Loockerman Street, Dover. Only three years later, DAL purchased a historic building at 21 Loockerman Street, committing the organization to the revitalization of the downtown area of the state capital. DAL moved into the building in July of 1996.

In June of 1999, the second phase of renovation enabled the League to gain occupancy of the second floor. This provided additional areas for classes, particularly for the expansion of the Summer Art Camp, and made possible the expansion of an already busy schedule of exhibitions, programs, and year round art classes for adults and children.

The sales gallery offers art and fine quality artisan work made by member artists, including many who first were invited to exhibit in the first two of our unique outreach projects, Collage of Cultures and Masterpieces of Maturity.

Collage of Cultures, a five-year project, won the Governor’s Tourism Award in 1997. Masterpieces of Maturity followed as a three-year initiative aimed at showcasing the talents of senior artists, age’s 60-90s and still provides art programming at local senior residential facilities
