The acclaimed Vermont based folk group, Wood’s Tea Company returns to
the event tent at Hildene for the annual Robert D. Thum Memorial
Concert. Hildene hosts this popular event every summer in honor of the
late Robert Thum, an early trustee and long-time supporter of the
Lincoln Family Home and its mission.
An acoustic group that performs fiery Celtic tunes,
bluegrass, seas shanties, and American folk songs with ease and skill,
Wood’s Tea Company has been playing crowd pleasing music for more than
two decades. During a performance they use as many as a dozen
different instruments, including banjos and bouzoukis, guitars and
bodhrans, and traditional tin whistles. They have toured nationwide,
playing in all of the lower 48 states. Notable performances include
New York’s Lincoln Center, the Chautauqua Institute and appearances on
PBS and NPR, who labeled them, “Vermont’s hardest working folk group.”
The group has announced that singer/songwriter
extraordinaire, Patti Casey has become the newest permanent member of
the Woods Tea Co. since 1981. Patti has appeared live on “A Prairie
Home Companion” with Garrison Keillor, has won Texas’s prestigious
Kerville Folk Festival New Folk Songwriter’s Competition, and was a
winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at the legendary
Merlefest in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Patti also brings her skills
on the guitar, penny whistle, flute and is a French – Canadian clogger.
The Hildene event takes place rain or shine. Gates open
at 5:00 pm for picnicking and the concert begins at 6:00 pm.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Parking
and admission at the Welcome Center: $5 for adults and $1 for children
under the age of 12. Members and volunteers are free.
