In this three day workshop students will explore the application of some traditional techniques to pastel paintings. Layering to create exciting color, handling edges to create depth and distance, underpainting to gain the best advantage of texture, as well as using preliminary charcoal drawings and fixatives to achieve a transparency and depth to a painting will be discussed and demonstrated. We will explore which technique and surface combination is best used to create close-up, middle distance and vista paintings and manipulation of pastels to maintain a spontaneous fresh appearance. Students can expect to have a working knowledge of techniques for creating paintings as well as a their preferred surface material by the end of the three day workshop.

Date: November 7-9, 2008 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Early Bird Tuition: $255 (cost of workshop if paid in full at least 3 months prior to scheduled start date)

Cost: Tuition fee: $270.

Level: Beginner.
