Into the Woods is a smart, witty show boasting some of the most melodic work of Stephen Sondheim and some of his most challenging lyrics. Because of the rigors of the intricate score we will be starting music rehearsals earlier than usual so that actors will have a chance to learn their many songs. This show is rather more like a traditional operetta in the sheer volume that has to be sung, not just by a few people but the whole cast. Accordingly, Port Angeles Light Opera Association Musical Theater is looking for actors and singers who can read music this will be a great help to them when it comes time to learn their parts. This is not a dance heavy show but most of the characters go through profound crisis so there will be strong dramatic demands on each actor.
This show is different than many other shows. Almost every character is what is usually referred to as a "lead role" in terms of amount of time on stage, songs to be sung, key action in advancing the plot. This a musically demanding show with much interaction in singing parts.
Singers and actors of all levels of experience are encouraged to audition and try out. Each year we rejoice to find great performers in our community and the Port Angeles Light Opera Association summer production is a great place to showcase local talent.
