In our annual Summer Introductions exhibit, we present a group of artists whose work is new to SAM Gallery. This year we are pleased to introduce Dave Aydelott, Francesca Berrini, Kirk Botero, Kim Kopp, Christen Mattix, Matthew Olds, Jim Phalen, Leslie Stoner, Timea Tihanyi and Eva Speer.
As part of the exhibit, artist Timea Tihanyi will create Fuzzy Anatomies (a large-scale exploration). Tihanyi’s new work, designed specifically for the installation window space at SAM Gallery, plays with simple, familiar forms and structures that simultaneously recall cuddly stuffed toys, fuzzy alien creatures and abstract bodily structures. (Despite these allusions, it manages to look delicious somehow.) The artwork is designed to show different sides depending on whether it is viewed from the street or from within the gallery. Bold organic forms and candy-like colors of handmade felt create an invitingly soft large-scale structure that revisits ideas of sensuality, physicality and the boundaries of the body.
