Laura Ward: Impressions
October 2-31, 2008
2008 Grants for Artist Projects recipient Laura Ward presents new sculptures at Seattle's Gallery4Culture.
"Ward explores the effects that patterns have on the mind, its memories and the imagination. The interiors and exteriors of abandoned spaces have become the source material for her sculptures. Each space contains patterns existing in both the architecture and decorations, and created by footprints and erosion. In this new series of work, Ward translates these patterns into three-dimensional sculptures using layered and carved paper, cement and wood. The sculptures represent interpretations of her memories sparked by images of existing patterns."
Impressions is made possible in part by Artist Trust's Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) Program.
Haruko Nishimura & Mandy Greer: The Silvering Path

"One dance of eros, earth and the slug
One battle of the Weeble Wobble vs. the Ninjas
And one Monstrous Grandmother"
