Green Lake Branch Temporarily Closed
from:Seattle Public Library category:Schools and Libraries posted:October 3rd, 2008The Seattle Public Library’s Green Lake Branch, 7364 E. Green Lake Dr. N., temporarily closed effective Oct. 2 to remove mold found in a crawl space in an unoccupied part of the basement.
The Library recently discovered the mold while investigating the source of odors detected in the building. A city industrial hygienist identified the mold Stachybotrys in an air sample of the crawl space.
While a sample in the meeting room above the crawl space did not contain any Stachybotrys, Library administrators decided to close the building as a precaution until additional air quality testing is completed and the mold can be removed.
This area of the building was not remodeled as part of the Libraries for All construction program.
The Library will determine how quickly it can reopen the Green Lake Branch after consulting with contractors. During the temporary closure, the book drop will also be closed. The Greenwood Branch, 8016 Greenwood Ave. N., (206-684-4086) will be the location for Green Lake Branch patrons to pick up their holds during the temporary closure, but call first to ensure your materials have been delivered.
