Toast Of Seattle At FareStart
from:Seattle Chamber of Commerce category:Arts and Entertainment posted:May 23rd, 2007Join us for breakfast and networking at FareStart in downtown Seattle.
The newly renovated facility has the capacity to double the number of people served and houses FareStart Restaurant as well as training facilities, student services and administrative offices. Two training kitchens with new state-of-the-art kitchen equipment allow the culinary training program to be much more creative with the menu and will expose students to a wider variety of cooking techniques and styles giving them a truer sense of how professional kitchens function.
FareStart provides a community that transforms lives by empowering homeless and disadvantaged men, women and families to achieve self-sufficiency through life skills, job training and employment in the food service industry. During their 16-week adult program and their eight-week youth barista program, FareStart students gain valuable hands-on work experience, along with individual case management, and graduate as employable individuals. Within three months of graduation, 80% of FareStart students are employed.
As a social-entrepreneurial organization, 40% of FareStart's operating budget comes directly from revenues earned by FareStart businesses. These businesses include the FareStart Restaurant (M-F lunch and Thursday night Guest Chef dinners), FareStart Catering, two barista training cafes and contract meals (served 365 days a year to area Head Start programs, senior centers, low-income day care centers and homeless shelters).
Remember to bring along lots of business cards for the structured networking as well as materials for the brochure table.
