Nordic Heritage Museum
Mission and Purpose
The Mission of the Nordic Heritage Museum Foundation is to highlight the contributions of Nordic immigrants and their descendants in the development of the Pacific Northwest, and to serve as a cross-cultural bridge among people from the Nordic countries and the United States.
The purposes of the Foundation shall be:
- To collect, preserve and protect material that reflects the life and culture of immigrants from the five Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden (the “Nordic Countries”), and to preserve the spirit and vision of Nordic pioneers;
- To display these materials, special collections and traveling exhibits under curatorial supervision;
- To seek and sponsor quality fine arts and performing arts programs that reflect both Nordic themes and subjects related to the Pacific Northwest;
- To display the unique history and contributions of the people from the Nordic Countries, thereby helping visitors understand both their common bond and their uniqueness and separate identity;
- To serve as a resource for school groups and others by providing educational programs and a professional library;
- To foster the continuous interaction of the Nordic People of today by hosting contemporary artists, educators and other public figures;
- To reach out for a broader base of civic and community participation in Museum programming, membership, and financial development; and
- To follow accepted standards of the American Association of Museums.
