The Pierce County Library System's 17 branches and three bookmobiles bring people together, enrich lives and provide children and adults with opportunities to learn.

The libraries offer families and children fun, education and free access to more than a million books, CDs and films, and numerous programs to help kids read and do their homework.

Library History:

Pierce County Library System has been serving customers for more than 60 years. The Library System has changed a lot in that time.

In 1946 seven branch libraries served 55,000 people.Today: Pierce County Library is the state's fourth largest library system with 17 branches serving 508,870 people.


In 1946 Pierce County Library offered 6,385 books and 6,800 from Tacoma Public Library. Today the Pierce County Library System offers 1.3 million books, CDs, DVDs, audio books on tape and more. It also offers computers with high-speed Internet access and free Wi-Fi.
