Christina Remmert grew up near Cape Canaveral, Florida. “I have always wanted to be an astronaut,” she said. With that goal in mind, Dr. Remmert earned her undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering and served as an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Propulsion Engineer in the Air Force. One day, however, Dr. Remmert realized she needed a career change. She wanted to help people, just like her father did. He was a doctor. “I talked to my dad about switching to medicine, and he said, ‘I always knew you’d come back.’” When Dr. Remmert completed her Air Force service she joined the Army, which paid for her medical education, and became a doctor. After residency training, she spent four years on the medical staff of an Army hospital in Alaska, earning the rank of Major. Because each person is different and medicine is not “one size fits all,” Dr. Remmert finds that listening to patients’ goals builds the trust that leads to improved health. “I try to tailor our treatment plan to what the patient wants,” said the board-certified internal medicine specialist. “We may not always agree. You may want to get off all of your medications. Maybe I can take you off of two, but not all 10. Let’s talk about it and see what we can do to help you get there.” Dr. Remmert enjoys playing in church bands. She has played the piano, harp and guitar since she was six years old; and enjoys any outdoor activity with her husband and three children. And yes, Dr. Remmert would still like to go to the moon. But she is also very happy to live in Hannibal and see patients at Hannibal Clinic.
