Dr. Orlandi is the most experienced of only a few fellowship-trained nasal and sinus specialists in the intermountain West. In 1998 he completed his training as a “rhinologist”, focused on the treatment of complex problems of the nose, sinuses, and anterior skull base (the area between the sinuses and the brain). He served as President of the American Rhinologic Society in 2017-18 and is the is the principal author of the International Consensus Statement on Rhinosinusitis, published in early 2016, as well as co-author of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery"s clinical practice guideline on adult sinusitis. He is a tenured Professor of Surgery as well as an adjunct associate professor of Neurosurgery, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Orlandi also serves as University of Utah Health`s Chief Medical Officer of Ambulatory Health.He was born in New York City and subsequently raised in Utah. He completed his bachelor"s degree at the University of Utah and then returned to New York City for medical school at NYU. He traveled to UCLA for residency and then completed a fellowship in Rhinology and Sinus Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Following two years on the faculty at the University of Michigan, he returned to Utah in 2000He has been a principal investigator on a grant from the National Institute of Bioengineering and Biomedical Imaging concerning sinus wound healing modifiers. He formerly chaired the research grant review section for the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy Foundation. He serves as a reviewer for all major scientific journals in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery.He has lectured throughout the United States and in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America on a wide range of sinus and nasal topics and is the author of over 100 journal articles and book chapters. He has been married for over 25 years and has three great kids. He enjoys biking (both road and mountain), and skiing.
