Approximately 3.3 million Americans were the victims of technology support scams in 2015, suffering a total loss of $1.5 billion. The type of fraud perpetrated online is widespread, with attacks via email, websites and web ads.
Consumers are inadvertently giving fraudsters access to their PCs, paying for fake services, installing malware, falling victim to identity theft, or subjecting themselves to blackmail and harassment. Regardless of method of attack, these criminals are trying to separate users from their money. It’s important to educate the public about the warning signs and how to report fraud when it happens.
This workshop supports the Microsoft community’s commitment to stopping the most prevalent types of online fraud and scams. Audience members will learn skills to help identify and avoid them.
