Boothbay Festival of Lights

Sunday, Dec 16, 2018 from 10:00am to 9:00pm

Boothbay Lights is a celebration of signature Holiday events in Maine midcoast’s quintessential seaside towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor! The towns sparkle with thousands of lights and the shops, restaurants and hotels are all open and ready to help you make wonderful Holiday memories!

Schedule of Events:

10:00 am - 4:00 pm: The Gingerbread Spectacular

This annual display of gingerbread houses large and small, with a few cabins, castles, lighthouses, and mythical structures thrown in for good measure shows off the heart of the community. Professional bakers and grade school builders all compete in this hilarious annual event with prizes awarded for Most Ingredients Used, Best Holiday Spirit, Most Obsessive Compulsive, Best Landscaping and, of course, Most Spectacular among other awards.  The confectionery creations are on display beginning Friday evening at the Dough Ball Preview Party and then throughout the weekend from 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday. No admission fee on Saturday or Sunday. Donations welcome. Entertainment, cocoa, bake sale, and the magical gingerbread structures make this the most fun weekend of the year at the Opera House.

Cost: Free

Location: The Opera House

11:00 am - 2:45 pm: North Pole Express

Start your trip inside historic 1912 Freeport Station (the main train station at the Museum) by writing your letter to Santa by warmth of the wood stove.

Train conductors will call “All Aboard” and everyone, young and old, will board the train to the North Pole. Settle into a comfortable seat in the steam-heated passenger car as you enjoy the winter wonderland of forest frosted with white snow (weather permitting, of course.)

If you’d like, upgrade your ticket to First Class and enjoy the Victorian splendor of the restored Franklin & Megantic Coach No. 2. The coach was originally built in 1903 and it embodies the typical travel of the era with its plush walkover seats and mahogany interior. Guests in First Class will also receive a keepsake for their family.

The train will carry you through the Village and arrive at the North Pole (Thorndike Station) where a special guest wearing a red suit with a jolly belly will jump aboard to greet you! Yes, Santa himself will attend!

Standard tickets are $18, First Class $23 for attendees three years and older. Museum members receive a $4 discount per ticket only on Standard tickets, sorry no discounts on First Class. Children under 3 years of age do not require a ticket; however, they must sit on an adult’s lap. No car seats or strollers are permitted on the trains.
