Join Harmonium Choral Society for their final concert of the season at the Morristown United Methodist Church. Dr. Anne Matlack conducts Be Brave, an eclectic program of global repertoire celebrating the fierceness of the creative artist and the spoken word.

The concert include works by Marques Garrett, Henry Purcell, Ysaye Barnwell, Melissa Dunphy, and more. It features a world premiere commission by Kenneth Lampl, and the second performance of a new work by Mark Miller, with chamber orchestra. “This program is particularly beautiful, uplifting, varied and eclectic, something we pride ourselves on in Harmonium,” said Artistic Director Dr. Anne Matlack. “The theme of ‘brave,’ rather than being war-like, focuses on being kind and standing up for good, and the concert features fantastic professional instrumentalists from within and without the group.”

The full choir will sing the first- and second-place winning compositions of the 27th annual High School Student Choral Composition Contest, and the program will include spoken words from students of Her Words, a local program working to empower teenage girls.

First prize winner is John Wallace from Mountain Lakes High School for May Night (Sara Teasdale). Second prize winner Gabriel Tarrow composed Puppeteer from a poem written by H. Cochran, a Her Words student, a Morristown High School senior.

Four additional student composers will be honored: Third prize winner Ella O'Neil, a junior at Haddonfield Memorial High School, and three students tied for Honorable Mention: Hannah Musilli, a senior at Montville Township High School; Job Campbell, a senior at Columbia High School; and Jonathan Lu, a senior at Madison High School.

Harmonium’s Universal Ticket can be used for either the Saturday or Sunday performance. Discounted advance tickets sell for $30 ($25 for students and teachers) online which closes at 11:59 PM on Friday, May 31. After that, tickets can be purchased at the door for $40 ($35 for students and teachers) via cash, card, or check.
