For the first time ever, we bring everything you know and love about the Oktoberfest, right here to Duluth, MN! At the 1st annual Duluth Oktober Festival you can find: bratwurst, German beer, Bavarian food, live music & more! Come join in on the fun with thousands of other locals!
The festival features a massive main Bier Hall with authentic German bier and food as well as several smaller tents with some of the region’s best craft breweries. There are tons of activities including a large professional kids zone area, entertainment, live music, games, and ancillary activities that are fun for all ages.

What is an Oktoberfestival without German music? This year, several incredible bands are traveling to Duluth to perform some authentic German music for everyone to enjoy.

The Dachshund Parade:
If racing isn’t your wiener dog’s thing. your pup can also join us in the opening ceremony parade which kicks off the festival on Friday, September 13. The parade includes live music, a golden keg tapping ceremony, the official Festmaster and Frau, and, of course, the march of the dachshunds. Pups can don their favorite costume or simply come as they are. And, just like Munich’s Oktoberfest, a queen and king will be crowned based on which pup has the best costume. Registration is FREE, just simply fill out the Registration Form below.

Stein Holding Contests:
The ultimate test of German strength and endurance—the Stein holding contest. Competitors will hold a full one-liter beer stein in front of them with a straight arm, parallel to the ground. It may be easy at first, but as the contest continues, the real challenge begins. The last man/woman hoisting is the winner. Registration will take place at the festival and the competition itself will be held on the stage within the main beer tent.
Women’s Bracket – register by 6:15PM, contest starts at 6:30PM
Men’s Bracket – register by 8:00PM, contest starts at 8:30PM
Mixed Two-handed Bracket – register by 8:30PM, contest starts at 8:45PM
Kid’s Bracket – register by 2:00PM, contest starts at 3:00PM (Root Beer used in place of beer)
Think you have what it takes to become a yodeling champion? Then bring your best (or worst) voice to the Duluth Oktoberfestival yodeling extravaganza on Saturday starting at 4:15PM.
Kids Tug of War:
Line the kids up and let the craziness begin as they compete for bragging rights as the strongest Kinder at the festival. This classic competition will take place around 2:00PM throughout the festival weekend and is a great kid’s activity to keep children active and laughing as you enjoy your bier in the background.
The Chicken Dance is for everybody and there will be plenty of opportunities to shake your tail feathers. Throughout the weekend, make sure to join in the dance when you hear the song. And don’t worry about looking silly – that’s the point!
The classic game of ring toss gets a German makeover! Plungers, pretzels, and the cheer when there’s a “ringer”… what more needs to be said?
Grab a partner and toss a few brats. Teams must complete a toss to-and-fro to see who can get the most brats in their bucket. Careful not to break them as you may end up tossing twice as much. Game on!
The classic lawn game in which contestants take turns pitching their bean bags at the cornhole platform until they reach a score of 21 points. A bean bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Grab your friends and join us for some friendly competition.
The objective is simple: to drive a nail into a cross section of wood faster than your opponents. Easy you say? Well then, we will see you at the Duluth Oktoberfestival to see if you actually have what it takes!
Feeling strong? In the Barrel Roll, players will push a barrel through the course while racing against the competition. Rules are simple: push the barrel to the finish line as fast as you can. A leader board will be updated throughout the weekend with the fastest times so start stretching now if you want to be crowned the Barrel Roll Champion!
Want to see the Duluth Oktoberfestival and the beautiful Lake Superior area from a bird’s eye view? The main Bier Hall will feature dancing, live music, and did we mention lots of bier? Das Zelt will be the center of our German cultural world and will transport you across the ocean to Munich complete with authentic music, food, and the biers of Bavaria.
The original Oktoberfest in Munich celebrated the local bier breweries and their craft, so, in honor of their noble intentions, the Duluth Oktoberfestival will also feature a variety of regional craft breweries in addition to our main German bier.
This year’s Duluth Oktoberfestival also features a variety of authentic food including brats, sausages, schnitzel, strudel, funnel cakes, roasted almonds and much more!
Der Kinderplatz offers a fun variety of children’s activities and entertainment at the Duluth Oktoberfestival.
Settled by the Arts & Crafts Markthaus, der Kinderplatz is full of fun for for all ages. Grab a shady spot under a tree to relax with friends and family while your kids get active and participate in all that the Kinderplatz has to offer including giant inflatables, music courses, painting classes, cookie decorating, and much more!

Stop by the Arts and Crafts Markthaus to experience regional and Bavarian craftsmanship. Pick up lasting memories of this year’s festival and browse through the wares from a variety of regional arts and crafts booths.

The Duluth Oktoberfestival offers a wide variety of authentic dishes brought to you by Grandma’s Restaurant and a range of other specialty shops. Bratwurst, Sausage, Sauerkraut, Potato Salad, Warm Pretzels, tons of delicious sweet treats, and much more! For kids and adults alike, we also have a variety of festival staples such as pizza, french fries, corn dogs, gyros, frozen custard and funnel cakes.
