Local schools, environmental groups, artists and art lovers are invited to see the work of Ruth Bauer Neustadter, the local mixed-media artist, social and political activist, who has produced a large number of paintings that encourage discussion of the many environmental issues we face. Her one person show, "Turn the Tide", opens October 1 and runs through November 16 in the Gallery at Hackensack Performing Arts Center, 102 State Street, Hackensack, NJ. The reception is October 25 from 6 to 9 PM where light refreshments will be served.

Born into a highly creative family of musician, painter, jewelry designer mother and sculptor father, Ruth's first love was modern dance.. Curious, questioning, reflective and attentive to her surroundings, she is a participant in multiple activist groups. Always the artist, this highly energetic woman can be seen walking around Hackensack, her home base, picking up odds and ends of refuse to re-purpose in her work. From her basement her kitchen, her porch, her living room, emerge highly textured, kinesthetic works that seem to dance away from the picture plane, serving her vision.

This highly colorful, tactile, show engages the viewer and asks them to participate by looking carefully at each piece. This takes time. 30 seconds at least per piece. What does the piece say to you about climate change, fossil fuels, glaciers, storms, fires? How does it make you feel? Does it connect to your experience? Does the work motivate you to act? A notebook is available for comments. Discussion is encouraged.

Contact the artist (rbnartist@yahoo.com) to arrange to bring your group to see this incredible show and discuss possibilities for action. The gallery is open from 9 to 5 PM.
