Join ethnobotanist Manuel Lizarralde, Associate Professor of Botany and Environmental Studies at Conn College in New London, for a two-hour walk at one of the state’s newest forests, The Preserve. Learn about the field of ethnobotany, and learn about native plants that were an integral part of Native American daily life in our region. Dr. Lizarralde will discuss the roles that various herbs, roots, flowering plants, grasses, and trees played. Dr. Lizarralde is a co-author with Jason Mancini of the forthcoming book, “Historical Ethnobotany of Southern New England: Recovering and Repatriating Indigenous Plant Knowledge.”
The walk will be appoximately three miles over mostly gentle terrain with some brief climbs. Wear hiking shoes, take insect precautions, and bring water.
