Women have left their mark on history in many ways – through fashion, art, business, and discoveries of all kinds. Much of what we know about early life is through the day-to-day entries in diaries and journals written by women. In fact, these writings are important primary sources used in research. While most are not filled with exciting details of major events or salacious gossip, many reveal a lot about particular periods and people that might never be known. They also give us a closer look at the impact on our day-to-day lives and serve as a key source for learning from the past.

The Cortland County Historical Society is celebrating Women’s History Month with a workshop and seminar about journals and their useful nature in research. In addition to a discussion about women’s contributions to history, there will be a hands-on workshop geared toward personalizing your own journal with collage and a short writing exercise to help you get started. All materials and a light lunch will be provided.

You must register for this event by Wednesday, March 22. You can register online at https://cortland-county-historical-society-inc.square.site/event or you can call us at 607-756-6071. The cost is $15 for members of Cortland County Historical Society and $20 for non-members. Payment is due by March 22.
