What is Marjorie Prime about?

Marjorie Prime is a 2015 Pulitzer Prize finalist, and winner of the 2016 Horton Foote Prize for Outstanding New American Play.

Marjorie Prime follows octogenarian Marjorie, battling dementia, as her daughter Tess and son-in-law Jon introduce a cutting-edge technology called a Prime—a computer hologram resembling Marjorie's deceased husband, Walter. The Prime becomes a repository of memories, which are selectively chosen by Tess and Jon. As Marjorie's health declines, Tess grapples with aging, mortality, and a complex relationship with her mother. The play explores human-robotic dynamics and challenges perceptions of memory, identity, and loss.

Jordan Harrison's poignant play explores human identity and the evolving relationship between advancing technology and cherished memories. Marjorie Prime invites us to question what we remember and what we might forget if given the chance, delving into the mysteries of the human experience and the boundaries of technology's ability to replace it.
