Memorial Day Ceremony

The Town of Brookline will be hosting a Memorial Day event, to honor veterans and the sacrifices they made through remembrance and celebration.

The ceremony will begin at the American Legion Veteran's Post, 386 Washington St. Participants will depart via trolley at 8:30 a.m. and travel to Walnut Hills Cemetery, 96 Grove St., for the starting ceremony which will begin at 8:50 a.m. Following the first ceremony, participates will travel to the Grand Army of the Republic Monument, the Brookline Revolutionary War Cemetery and will return to the Veterans post before the final procession to the main ceremony at the World War Monument at Town Hall.

Ceremony at the Grand Army of the Republic Monument, 96 Grove St., 8:50 a.m.
Director McGroarty will deliver the opening invocation and tribute to the Grand Army of the Republic. The Laying of the wreath will be presented by Past Commander Kevin Lynch and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stephen Rutledge Post 864.

Ceremony at Walnut Hills Cemetery, Veterans' Lot 96 Grove St. at 9 a.m.
The ceremony will be conducted by Director McGroarty. A Firing Squad and the Brookline Honor Guard, comprised of members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Stephen F. Rutledge Post 864, Brookline Police Department and Brookline Fire Department will be in attendance. Taps and echo will be performed.

Ceremony at Brookline Revolutionary War Cemetery, Walnut Street, at 9:30 a.m.
The ceremony will be conducted by the Daughters of the American Revolution representative Dianne MacPherson-Laffey. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place and will be presented by MacPherson-Laffey and Marcus Laffey.

Participants will return to the American Legion Veteran's Post at 10 a.m.

Procession at 10:45 a.m.
The Brookline Police Department, the Brookline Fire Department, and the Brookline Honor Guard will be leading the procession.

Main Ceremony at World War Monument 333 Washington St., at 11 a.m.
The main ceremony will include Memorial Day speakers, Aimee Scorziello, daughter of U.S. Navy Radarman Louis Scorziello who served in World War II, and Elanie Devine, daughter of U.S. Army Corporal Thomas Boyle who served in the Korean War. Both Louis Scorziello and Thomas Boyle are being posthumously awarded the Arthur Hurley Memorial Award for their service to veterans and to their country.
