NMAI Traveling Exhibition - Maxfield Parrish: Paintings and Prints

Sunday, Dec 16, 2018 from 10:00am to 5:00pm

Maxfield Parrish: Paintings and Prints from the National Museum of American Illustration presents a comprehensive collection of prints and original paintings by one of the twentieth century’s most popular American painters and illustrators. Images by Maxfield Parrish (1870–1966) are universally popular and instantly recognizable due to their long-standing proliferation on calendars, art prints, greeting cards, magazine covers, and novels. This exhibition features original artworks and vintage prints from all periods of Parrish's career, including early periodical and book illustrations with fantastical romantic images, commercial advertising, and the popular Edison Mazda (General Electric) calendars. Maxfield Parrish’s “girls on rocks” images were ubiquitous in the 1920s, with an estimated one of every four American households having a Parrish print on display. On view in the MSV Changing Exhibitions Gallery from September 1 through January 6, 2019, this exhibition offers the unique opportunity to examine Parrish’s original artworks alongside their vintage reproductions. Maxfield Parrish: Paintings and Prints is sponsored by WINC 92.5 FM.
