Pianist Joel Schoenhals, an Ann Arbor favorite, was last slated to perform to a sold-out crowd at the House a few days before the pandemic. Join us for his return to the House!! Many Ann Arborites remember his remarkable traversal of the complete Beethoven Sonatas in eight concerts between 2012 and 2016. In this concert, Schoenhals revisits the final sonatas of Beethoven, Op. 109, 110, and 111. To imagine such revolutionary and radical compositions were written amidst complete deafness makes the miracles of these sonatas all the more mythical. The first twenty-nine sonatas show an astonishing array of expression from dramatic to graceful, demonic to humorous, despairing to heroic. In the final three, we see Beethoven at his most lyrical, poetic, personal, intimate, and spiritual.
