Theatre-on-the-Hill, Bolingbrook's very own community theatre company, is proud to present William Shakespeare’s classic farce The Taming of the Shrew. The play will run February 9-25. Staged indoors at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center, this production offers audience members the intimacy of a local theater with talent of the highest caliber--an experience that TOTH prides itself in being able to provide.
Before her younger sister can get married, fiery-tongued Kate (portrayed by Cathleen Nettles of Romeoville and Suzanne Reeves of Naperville) must have a husband. Fortune-seeking Petruchio (played by Vic Tyler of Romeoville and Gary Hernandez of Oswego) comes to town and accepts the challenge, but his attempt to “tame” his new bride results in a tumultuously titillating battle of the sexes.
Fast, fierce and funny, The Taming of the Shrew is a rollicking romantic comedy for the ages. “However,” says director Michael Fudala, “this is Shakespeare’s most misinterpreted play. It is a farce about inequities in class and gender roles. Shrew explores the depth of human relationships, the masks we all wear in both love and life, in a witty yet deeply profound way. Rare is a person what they appear to be. It is our assumptions that reveal our nature, our actions that redeem us.”
Cast members also include: Allison Hodges and Allen Woodman of Aurora; Demonte Dandridge, Crystal Duran, Julie Guida, Marcus Payne, Andrew Philippides, Cameron Nowicki, Matthew Rachal, and Izabella Wolfe of Bolingbrook; Paul Schmidt of Chicago; Leann Hoffrogge of Joliet; Melanie Bagal of Lemont; Julia Groban of Lyons; Kate Yun of Naperville; Tina Matriciano of Palos Hills; Jim Nettles and Tracey Peterson of Romeoville; MaryJo Carlson of Villa Park; and Ivy Kadisak of Woodridge.
