From Friday, September 20 to Sunday, September 22, 2019 for a limited time only, The Sing Sing Prison Museum and Bethany Arts Community will present the East Coast premiere of The Wait Room, an outdoor dance program created by Flyaway Productions of San Francisco to honor the lives of women whose loved ones are incarcerated. The four performances will be shown at Louis Engel Park on the Hudson River waterfront, located just outside the walls of Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining and near a decommissioned prison guard tower and a children’s play area, which is a comment on the theme of the dance relating to how families and children are affected by incarceration.
The first presentation of The Wait Room on the East Coast has been made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. For more information on The Wait Room, please visit here.
All proceeds will benefit the SSPM, which is slated to open its Powerhouse in 2020 that will be a place for prototyping exhibitions and programs. SSPM will fully open in 2025, the 200th anniversary of the original Cellblock construction.
