In film, a masterful musical score can create an atmosphere, elicit emotions, and deepen our understanding of the characters on screen. Discover what makes film music great and how the cinema inspired composers to write some of their most moving works. This two-day residency, curated by cellist Dmitri Atapine, explores the relationship between Dmitry Shostakovich and Soviet cinema, the music of Nino Rota, and the work of legendary Hollywood composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold. You’ll also be introduced to brand-new, film noir-inspired music from Libby Larsen and Patrick Castillo.
