Forecasting global sea level rise hinges on understanding how the Antarctic ice sheet behaves at its base, a region that is challenging to study because of the thick ice layers above. In December 2022, Zhongwen Zhan (PhD '13), professor of geophysics, embarked on a monthlong research expedition to Antarctica to explore an innovative method for investigating this crucial area. In this talk, Zhan will share the story of his transformative journey, detailing the scientific discoveries and the profound personal experiences that reshaped his perspective not just on geophysics but on life as a scientist.
