Make your own refracting telescope in just one afternoon at the Gaithersburg Community Museum. This event is recommended for ages nine and older; children eleven and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Veteran DC amateur telescope-maker Guy Brandenburg will lead this workshop on how to make a small functioning telescope that can either be hand held or mounted on most camera tripods. No experience is necessary. All materials will be provided. You might get a little dirty, so dress appropriately.
During the workshop, explore how various types of telescopes such as reflectors, refractors and catadioptrics are assembled and how they operate. View actual telescopes, including the type made and used by Galileo around 1609.
Cost is $35, $30 for City of Gaithersburg residents.
