In the fall of their senior year in high school, Cort Gatliff and Christian Kauffman sat together in a class called "Facing History, Facing Ourselves". They learned about times in history where tragedies like the Holocaust took place, and people did nothing. They decided they needed to do something to make a difference in the world before their senior year ended. They knew of the clean water crisis in much of the Third World, and when the earthquake hit Haiti, they knew where to focus their efforts. They combined their love of cycling with their desire to help, with the full support of their families, friends, school, and Memphis. They began their ride at the Santa Monica Pier on March 4, and finished in Savannah, GA on April 1. You can find the whole story with pictures at www.the watercycle.org.
