David and Lakshmi Dominguez have spent the past 25 years serving their community. For Lakshmi it wasn't a choice. She was raised by a mother who required her to help others and a grandmother who was an early volunteer, so serving others is part of her social DNA.
As teachers and volunteers, board members and hands-on workers they inspire others to get involved. David teaches Community Law and also teaches his students about the importance of service to the community. Laksmi has been a volunteer with a local theater that hosts a Storytelling Festival every year (for the past 24 years) and serves on boards and with other community service projects. Together they started a local branch of Habitat for Humanity.
They are both grateful for the support they receive from their neighbors and say "People consider it a blessing to serve and are just looking for an appropriate structure."
Do you know someone who considers it their duty to serve their community? Nominate them for next week's AmericanTown's Heroes.
