Jenna: Loving People Because People Matter

All Hero Nominee AmericanTowns Hero

Jenna believes that one should always be volunteering. In her own words: "Not only does it make the world a better place, but it makes you a better human being ... We just need to figure out what our talents are and where are the opportunities to apply those talents." She is helping Night Strike raise money for a mobile clinic to help with outreach efforts. Night Strike is the name given to a gathering of volunteers brought together to serve the homeless community under a bridge in downtown Portland. Every Thursday people like Jenna stand ready to set up tables, hand out clothing or food and offer a warm welcome or an eager ear. The motto of the organization is "Loving People Because People Matter." Jenna started volunteering with the organization a couple of years ago and now she is on the leadership team and advises others on how to successfully step outside their comfort zone and get involved! She maintains a website where she posts about various fundraising efforts as well as a Twitter stream where she keeps a lively stream of content flowing out to her readers. Do you know someone who puts their talents to work serving their community? Nominate them for next week's AmericanTown's Heroes.
