Jordan Ledyard Stepped In to Help an Elderly Couple

All Hero Nominee AmericanTowns Hero

The Branford Center was buzzing with activity the day Jordan Ledyard had her courage tested. At just 13 years old, you probably think her a little young to be defending adults, but that's just what she found herself doing when she saw an elderly couple being assaulted by a violent and mentally disturbed young man. Calls came into the police station from a number of people on the scene, though Jordan was one of the few who stepped in to help. When Jordan saw an elderly man being shoved to the ground, she knew she couldn't stand idly by any longer. Unfortunately, she also received a blow to her face while coming to his defense. Four people in all were assaulted that day, including the elderly wife who was also pushed to the ground and kicked in the face by the individual who became violent after the couple's car scraped the car he was sitting in. When the police arrived they quickly restored order and later remarked on what courage it took for Jordan who is much smaller to put herself in front of a large and mentally disturbed individual, clearly in a violent and uncontrollable rage. While law enfacement officials will often caution people against "getting involved," it's a thankful thing that Jordan and a few others passing by stopped to help the couple who were being assaulted and abused. Do you know someone who put themselves in harm's way to help protect a friend or neighbor? Nominate them for next week's AmericanTown's Hero.
