Justine Rallied Bloggers to Bake a Difference

All Hero Nominee AmericanTowns Hero

Donating to a charity these days is simple. You can click or call, text or mail. Sometimes it seems impersonal and you often wonder if your money is reaching the people you want to help. But there are people who take a more hands-on approach to giving and they've been giving back in return. Justine, from A Half Baked Life, and a bevy of bloggers across the country held an online auction called "Baking A Difference for the Garden State" to raise money for Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. The bakers chose the United Way Hurricane Sandy Fund as the recipient of their charity with the assurance that the monies raised would go to prop up local services going directly to those in need. Then they got to work mixing up delectable goodies to sell online. Bakers and sellers worked out their preferred delivery times and methods and then cookies, brownies, granola and other goodies found their way into happy homes. It was a win/win and an inspiration for how the Internet can be used to connect a country and a community. And in a sweet and wholesome way! Do you know someone who uses their skills to make a difference for others? Nominate them for next week's AmericanTown's Hero.
