Most of us think of Halloween when October rolls around, but we've also come to associate October as National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Many organizations run their fund raising campaigns this month with the use of pink ribbons on merchandise and messaging. Breast Cancer is a disease that claims way too many lives each year and until there is a cure there will be people like Marie Paolucci who work to make the process of going through chemotherapy less painful for those undergoing treatment. Paolucci, who is a two-time cancer survivor took what she learned from her months of chemotherapy and came up with a kit to help supply those little things that can make a big difference in someone suffering from the effects of chemo. The organization she started in 2005 is called Chemo Comfort and with the help of a number of non-profit organizations they are making these kits available to those who need them. In some cases they are free and in some cases there is a small donation requested to cover the cost. Chemo kits include toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash and lozenges to help cope with mouth sores and chemo burn as well as things like warm socks, silky pillowcases for those who have lost their hair and a booklet of helpful tips that Marie put together as a result of her experience. If you would like to learn more about chemo kits or order one for a friend or loved one, visit their website at chemocomfort.org. Until there is a cure, there will be people like Marie working to make cancer less painful for others.
